Why Do They Keep Using Overused College Essay Topics?
Why Do They Keep Using Overused College Essay Topics? When I started teaching and answering questions from my students, I realized that the topics they always had in mind were very interesting, but they rarely got past the fifth or sixth draft. Some were on subjects like youth and teens, while others used the same ideas for law, religion, English, education, and poetry.I had never heard of the topic 'Overused College Essay Topics' before, but it is more prevalent than you might think. Every year, thousands of essays are submitted to colleges, but a few of them stand out as being more 'used' than others. Let's take a look at 5 top overused topics, and see if we can figure out why they get used over again.Themes: A lot of people tend to write essays around a theme. You have a teacher who likes to teach high school, or you have an older person who wants to write about their career. While this is a good way to cover an entire area of study, it often gets pushed aside for the real meat of the essay. Why? Because people tend to cover their topics with everyday topics, instead of digging deeper into them. The first reason why most college essay topics tend to be overused is because they're talking about things that already exist. What happens when you read an essay about teenagers, religious issues, or ethics? You just end up reading a very short paragraph about something you already know and that's the easiest and most 'useful' topic for most students. The second reason why most college essay topics are overused is because they are not applicable to the reader's life. While these topics may sound like they would be exciting, they don't really apply to every single person. For example, a lot of the topics in a science or medicine class are hard for the average person to understand, so they get a lot of resistance from the student. But even if the topic sounds good on paper, you're going to have a different degree of difficulty in explaining it to a student. If it seems li ke too much of a hassle, your topic will be pushed aside. Sometimes that's just how it goes, but other times students might be embarrassed to discuss certain topics in class, so they just get over it by writing about them.Business: We tend to use business essay topics all the time, but we don't realize that there is a lot of pressure on them. People usually tend to assume that businesses take care of everything themselves, and that is what they are writing about. But because of this, you get a lot of unnecessary jargon that doesn't add any real information to the discussion. You should have a professional write this paper instead of a student.Even the titles of the articles and essays themselves are being pushed aside in favor of more 'useful' topics for college essay topics. Many papers will simply use a descriptive term or phrase and skip over any of the actual content. It's really quite pathetic, and you need to start noticing trends in your own class if you're not doing it.
